Good Morning! 🌞

For the history nerds out there:

August 25, 1944, exactely 80 years ago today, is a historic date in World War II, marking the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupation. After four years under German control, the French capital was freed by the French 2nd Armored Division and the U.S. 4th Infantry Division, leading to widespread celebrations and signaling a significant turning point in the war as Allied forces advanced further into Europe.

Innovation

World’s Fastest Charging EV Battery

Chinese automaker Zeekr claims its new electric vehicle (EV) batteries charge faster than those of competitors, including Tesla and BYD. According to the company, these upgraded batteries can go from 10% to 80% capacity in just 10 and a half minutes using their ultra-fast charging stations.

In comparison, Tesla states that a 15-minute charge on its Model 3 provides 175 miles (282 km), which is slightly less than half of the vehicle's full range.

Zeekr's 2025 007 sedan, will be the first model to feature this new battery. The company also asserts that the battery performs well in cold conditions, charging from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes even at temperatures as low as -10°C.

Tu Le, founder and managing director of Sino Auto Insights, commented that "Tesla’s charging technology is no longer industry-leading and hasn’t been for some time."

Mark Rainford, a China-based car industry commentator, added that while brands like BYD focus on scale and sales, Zeekr, Li Auto, and Nio are concentrating on enhancing the charging experience. He noted that Zeekr's parent company, Geely, has the resources to support this innovation due to its vertically integrated business model, which includes ownership of brands like Lotus and Volvo.

Amazing Renovation

There are a lot of very pretty old buildings in America that are in disrepair and falling apart. Luckily, some of them get a new life.

This family bought an old elementary school and have renovated it into their home. Having done some work in construction and remolding, this is quite a monumental project. I am very impressed.

I am glad to see people with the financial means decide to purchase these old buildings and put the time and money into saving them, instead of just tearing them down and building something new.

Congratulations to the family and all the contractors for some very fine work. In particular, the man who did all the tile work did a very nice job.

Lost in Translation: Parents and Gen Alpha Struggle with 'Brainrot' Language

Leila Register / NBC News; Getty Images

It started with “skibidi.” (bad)

The term suddenly entered the vocabulary of kids under 14, marking the first slang unique to Generation Alpha. Parents noticed it at the dinner table, but its meaning was elusive—sometimes bad, sometimes cool, or sometimes meaningless, according to their kids. Then, a flood of similar, confusing terms followed.

Gen Z's slang like “slay” and “tea” is already outdated, replaced by “sigma,” (this can have a few meanings, but a general one is someone who’s cool, but who plays by their own rules (good or cool) “gyatt,” (Gyatt is a term used to express strong excitement, surprise, or admiration, often in reference to someone with a curvaceous body or a large butt.) and “fanum tax.” (Internet slang term describing the theft of food between friends)

Parents are struggling to keep up. Born after 2010, Gen Alpha has developed a way of speaking that's increasingly hard for older generations to understand. Though they’re only a year younger than the youngest Gen Zers, their language is a world apart.

Intergenerational conversations are becoming more difficult to decipher.

Gen Alpha's online-heavy speech has been labeled “brainrot” by older Gen Zers who share platforms like TikTok with them. The slang often originates from niche internet communities—sometimes jumping from Roblox to Twitch to TikTok—making it particularly hard for older generations to grasp.
