The Royal Portrait Controversy

The first official portrait of King Charles III was recently unveiled at Buckingham Palace and it has garnered… well, mixed reactions.

Some people seem to love it, others think it missed the mark. Personally, it doesn’t work for me. The only contrasting color being his face makes it look like his head is sort of floating in a sea of red. Having a different background color would have worked much better in my opinion.

If you watch the video of the unveiling, it almost looks like King Charles III was a little shocked by the color.

Here is the link to the original Instagram post showing the image as well as the video of the unveiling. Most of the replies to the portrait are admittedly quite amusing, though some are a bit mean.

I have also posted the unveiling video down below if you prefer X over Instagram.

What do you think of the portrait? Do you like or dislike it. We would love to know.

Amazing Record: Longest Ski Jump Ever

An amazing new word record has just recently been set. The worlds longest ever ski jump.

I had never watched long distance ski jumping before. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was different then I was expecting… and much more fun to watch.

Old Norse Come to Life

Herr Mannelig is a Swedish folk ballad that is known for its beautiful and enchanting sound.

The original song is amazing, but recently a musician has taken it one step further and translated it into Old Norse and performed it featuring him and his wife. It is an absolutely amazing version. Something about the way Old Norse sounds is even more lilting than the Swedish version.

If you want a little info about the story of the song. It is about a traveling man who encounters a female mountain troll. The troll tries to convince the man to marry her by offering treasures and gifts.

In Scandinavian folk lore, trolls could be used to refer to several different types of creature which had a wide range of description. They did not always appear as giant ugly creatures, and could look quite human. However, they were generally thought to be unfriendly and deceptive.

If you have never heard the version in Swedish I would definitely recommend it too.

“Sometimes beautiful things come into our lives out of nowhere. We can't always understand them, but we have to trust in them. I know you want to question everything, but sometimes it pays to just have a little faith.”
