UFO Vehicle Pulled Over by Police in 3 States

Police officers in three states recently encountered a unique vehicle resembling a UFO traveling across the country.
Officer Darin Layman first spotted the vehicle on Interstate 44 in Missouri, pulling over the driver for a lane violation and expired license plate. The vehicle, made of metal panels with a spherical roof, prompted light-hearted interactions as the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office shared images and joked on Facebook about "friendly humanoids coming in peace."

The driver, Mr. Anderson, was traveling to a UFO festival in Roswell, New Mexico, with encounters in Oklahoma and New Mexico also featuring humorous exchanges and photo opportunities. The annual Roswell UFO festival, held since 1996, celebrates a 1947 incident sparking alien spacecraft rumors, featuring events like alien-themed contests and parades.

Polyester Recycling Innovation

– released by the study authors.

At the University of Delaware, materials engineers have developed a chemical recycling method to separate artificial fibers like nylon from natural fibers such as cotton. This innovation holds promise as a potential breakthrough in clothing recycling.

The fashion and textile industries contribute significantly to global landfill waste, with polyester, spandex, and nylon textiles continuously shedding microplastics into the environment. Most municipal recycling facilities lack the capability to process these materials, which complicates recycling efforts.
Combining artificial fibers with natural ones like cotton or wool renders the textiles unrecyclable using current methods.

"We need improved methods to recycle modern garments, given that clothing consumption shows no signs of slowing down," explained Erha Andini, a chemical engineer at the University of Delaware, in an interview with MIT's Tech Review. "Our goal is to establish a closed-loop system for textile recycling."

Andini led a study published in Science Advances, outlining a pioneering process. This method utilizes a solvent to break down chemical bonds in polyester and nylon, allowing artificial threads to separate from natural fibers. This separation enables both components to be reintegrated into a closed-loop recycling system.

Marble Statue of a Roman God Found

Bulgarian archaeologists made a significant discovery this week at the site of the ancient Roman city of Heraclea Sintica in southwestern Bulgaria. During excavations in an ancient sewer system, they uncovered a well-preserved marble statue of Hermes, the Greek god.

The 6.8-foot (2-meter) tall statue, believed to be a Roman replica of an ancient Greek original, was found buried under layers of soil following an earthquake around A.D. 388 that devastated the city. Despite its age, the statue's head remains intact and it is in remarkably good condition, with minor damage observed on the hands.

Founded by Philip II of Macedon between 356 B.C. and 339 B.C., Heraclea Sintica thrived until its decline and eventual abandonment around A.D. 500. Despite the city's conversion to Christianity, the discovery suggests efforts were made to preserve elements of its pagan past, highlighting a complex interplay between old and new religious beliefs during that time.
