Happy Monday!

As we bid farewell to November, here's a little trivia: November got its name from the Latin word "novem," meaning "nine," as it was the ninth month in the ancient Roman calendar.

November, despite its name is now the eleventh month of the year. Why the confusion? Blame it on the Romans and their early calendar shuffles.

The month of July was re-named for Julius Caesar shortly after his death. While August got its name from the esteemed Augustus Caesar. To make room for these two important figures, poor November got pushed back a few months, but held onto its original name.

From Red to Black: The True Story Behind Black Friday

Black Friday has emerged as the undisputed kickoff to the festive spending season. But beyond the chaos of crowded malls and discount-hungry shoppers lies a fascinating history rooted in the strategic origins of turning red ink to black on retailers' balance sheets.

The term "Black Friday" traces its roots back to the 1960s in Philadelphia, where police officers used it to describe the traffic chaos and disruptive crowds that accompanied the post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy. Over time, the negative connotations gave way to a more positive association with profitability.

Traditionally, companies recorded losses in red ink and profits in black on their accounting ledgers. Black Friday marked the point in the year when many retailers transitioned from operating in the red to achieving profitability.

As the years went by, Black Friday evolved into a highly anticipated event not only for businesses but also for consumers seeking unbeatable deals. The tradition of offering significant discounts on this day became a mutually beneficial strategy. Companies, having achieved profitability, could afford to slash prices, enticing a larger customer base and fostering loyalty.

The synergy between turning a profit and offering substantial discounts has become a hallmark of Black Friday.

Iron Mike's Journey: Turmoil, Transformation, Redemption

Mike Tyson's early years were marked by a turbulent upbringing and a plunge into the world of juvenile delinquency. Under the guidance of legendary trainer Cus D'Amato, Tyson found a mentor and father figure who channeled his raw talent into becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. However, the apex of success was followed by a rapid descent fueled by legal issues, tumultuous relationships, and financial struggles.

Amid the chaos, Tyson's aggressive persona in and out of the ring overshadowed his undeniable talent. Convicted of rape in 1992, Tyson faced a significant prison sentence that further tarnished his reputation. However, it was during his incarceration that Tyson began the process of self-reflection and rehabilitation.

Tyson's release in 1995 marked the beginning of his journey toward personal redemption. Over the years, he has openly addressed his struggles with anger, substance abuse, and the consequences of fame. His willingness to openly confront his demons and seek professional help reflects a profound transformation.

In the realm of pop culture, Tyson's reinvention has been nothing short of remarkable. He's ventured into acting, comedy, and recently launched a successful podcast, showcasing a more introspective and lighthearted side of the once-feared fighter.

Beyond the entertainment realm, Tyson's return to the boxing scene in his 50s signaled not only a physical comeback but a testament to his mental and emotional resilience. During his comeback in 2020, Tyson portrayed a serene, contemplative, and modest demeanor, a remarkable departure from the old Tyson we once knew.
